DAFF’s transitional period has ended and full compliance under the Illegal Logging Prohibition Act 2012 (Cth) and Illegal Logging Prohibition Rules 2024 is now required.
DAFF will now begin exercising its full enforcement powers under the Illegal Logging Prohibition Act and Rules. These powers include fines of up to $33,000 per consignment for civil penalty contraventions and up to $99,000 per consignment for fault‑based offences. Importers can also face criminal conviction and up to five years’ imprisonment for importing illegally logged timber.
